Nomination Year: 2022
SYNOPSIS:

Okay, first of all, let's talk about the 10-ton elephant in the room. Or rather, the two five-ton elephants in the rooms. The whole gimmick of this movie is that it's shot in 98% SPLIT-SCREEN, aka Duo-Vision, so you're watching two, two, two shitty movies in one! The problem is, half the time, characters are in the same scene, or even sometimes inches apart, and yet you see them on both sides. The other half of the time, it's like the filmmakers didn't really know what to do. "Well, we've got this whole other side we're not using. What do we put in it?" The answer seemed to be one of two things: 1) Pointless, boring, mundane things other characters are doing like eating or looking at paintings, or 2) This WEIRD, CREEPY, and POINTLESS woman playing an ORGAN.

Oh, the plot? A defrocked ex-cop is now a hotel detective at a fancy resort and women keep turning up missing. When his ex-wife, a singer, comes to perform at the hotel, the killer targets her. We know who the killer is pretty early on, so there's very little mystery. Only the "wonders" of DUO-VISION! Ugh.

In a word (okay, two): Stupid, Stupid.

Floor-Warned Is Floor-Armed
The killer drops the severed arm of his latest victim RIGHT in front of a quartet of partiers, who not only fail to notice it, but also don't see him snatch it back practically under their noses.

No Mail
"Did I get any mail today?" "If you did, it's in your box." "There's nothing there." "Then you didn't get any mail!"

"WHAT?!"
They Did the Thing
Duo-Vision really has a weird euphemistic way of depicting sex...

DUO-VISION!
The screen extolling the wonders of Duo-Vision. (Maybe for explanation?)

Flying Leap
The killer is cornered. He's taken Lisa hostage. But that's taken care of (note the killer's on BOTH sides sometimes). And then Sgt. Ramsey uses "reverse psychology" to get him not to jump. So he does. And floats down onto fence spikes. Argh.

Richard L. Bare Directed all those funny Joe McDoakes So You Want To... shorts through the 40s and 50s. Also directed many "Twilight Zone," "Petticoat Junction," and "Green Acres" episodes, which were excellent, strangely. Then he got gimmicky.
