The Monolith Monsters (1957)
Monolith
Nomination Year: 1995
SYNOPSIS: Ever have one of those toy science kits with the pretty colored rocks that grow when you put them in water? Well, this film is that idea taken to its ridiculous extreme. A meteor crashes in the desert of the American Southwest. It's made of an alien material that sucks the silicon from who- or whatever touches it -- but it only activates when it gets wet. When it does get wet, each little fragment grows into a tower of enormous size, which topples and starts the whole process anew. Two local-yokel scientists have to figure out what makes the rocks grow and how to stop them before they overrun the whole state -- maybe even the world! Is that thunder I hear? Better hurry!
Oblivious
"That's It! Coffee! Coffee Makes the Rocks Grow!"
The two scientists are trying to figure out what makes the alien rocks grow. Hours later, they discover it's -- coffee! No, wait -- it's water! How dense can you be?
