Knock Off (1998)
Nomination Year: 2000
SYNOPSIS: Jean-Claude van Damme plays a Hong Kong fashion designer who has been involved in the imitation clothing business for years. With the help of his new partner (Rob Schneider), he is trying to go legit. Unfortunately, someone is still slipping them knock-offs. And for purposes more sinister and nefarious than even they can, at first, imagine.
- Most Ludicrous Premise
Lots of Little Green Bombs
There are these little green bombs. And they're being secretly implanted into imitation designer jeans, and a signal from a satellite will cause them all to detonate at once, decimating the world's teenage-girl population.
- "Alas, Poor Yorick"
Impaled by Bamboo
There is a fight, of the long-drawn-out-JCvD-kicks-ass type. At the end, his opponent is accidentally impaled by a shard of broken bamboo. Is this better or worse than being killed by a breadfruit? Difficult to say.
- Deus Ex Machina
Hong Kong Cop Saves Jean-Claude
JCvD is caught dead-to-rights in a stunningly-clever boobytrap ... and the run-of-the-mill Hong Kong cop happens along and saves him.
- Best One-Liner
"Would You Mind Pointing That Thing Somewhere Else?"
JCvD and his long-time friend and business associate are arguing, then guns get drawn, and somehow Rob Schneider ends up in the middle, with everyone's gun pointed at him.
- "Cutting Butter With A Chainsaw"
JCvD's longtime-friend and business associate opens the safe where one of the little bomb control chips is kept. But unfortunately, it was booby-trapped. There's a small missile inside. It slams into the guy, propels him outside through the window, across the alley, and into the wall of the building across the way. Then it explodes.
