The Progeny
Nomination Year: 2001
SYNOPSIS: You may recognize the star as Arnold Vosloo, the Mummy from
The Mummy. If
you'd seen the rest of it, you'd see Brad Dourif in it as well ("Mr. Souder"
of
Star Trek: Voyager fame). Basically, it's about a doctor who suspects
his wife has been impregnated by aliens. He tries to convince her OB/GYN
(Brimley), who dies with the knowledge. He then enlists the aid of a UFO
conspiracy nut (Dourif), who helps him kidnap the wife from her psycho ward,
where the alien baby's mental manipulations have landed her. His plan is to
do a highly illegal C-section and abort the fetus himself. Things go
downhill from there.

Wilford Brimley, OB-GYN Now, of all the folks you'd want to be your OB, Wilford Brimley has to
be near the BOTTOM of the list. Okay maybe Marilyn Manson, Alice Cooper, or
Paul Reubens come to mind as well, but I digress. I suppose his homespun
wisdom and portrayal of caring "horse sense" is what landed him the part,
but still... Anyway, after the audience has had time to drink in Wilford
calmly discussing some very private feminine matters, we see him swab from
his patient some discharge, which GLOWS RED. He looks at it clearly, then,
in response to the woman's concerns, says, "Everything's gonna be just
fine."

The Abduction Under hypnosis (of course), the wife remembers the abduction, and here
it is, in all her, uh, its glory. As she is lying in bed naked, our heroine is drawn out of the window and up into the sky (rotated so we can look at her from multiple angles). (Stupidest-Looking) Aliens approach her, and ....
By the way, just as an aside, in another part of the film,
the husband is talking to his shrink, discussing the abduction. The shrink
asks if EVERYTHING were exactly the same when the aliens replaced him atop
his wife. He said yes, even the erection. That makes the first part of
this clip take on a whole new, painful perspective.
