SYNOPSIS: The movie proceeds more metaphorically than literally, but this is how the plot goes.

El Topo is a gunman. He and his son ride into a city where a massacre has taken place. He leaves his son with some monks that he rescues, and picks up a woman who helps to direct him through the desert, where his goal is to find and defeat the four master gunmen of the desert.

He succeeds in his task, but is wounded, and the woman leaves him in the desert.

He is found by a clan of deformed people, and taken to the cave where they live in order to recover. Years pass. He helps to dig a tunnel so that the deformed people can escape from the cave where they have been imprisoned.

It all ends in tears.

This is the short version of the plot summary: It all ends in tears.
