Orochi: The Eight-Headed Dragon  (1994)
[+]
(Foreign Titles)
Nomination Year: 2005
SYNOPSIS: Jenna describes this movie by saying that she thinks they wanted to make an anime, but couldn't afford to. In Imperial Japan, the younger twin son of the local lord is taken for a demon (being a younger twin) and exiled. Eventually, he is allowed back at court but must prove himself by being sent out to battle the lord's enemies. After many martial arts fights, this leads the hero and his companions to fight a real demon. But once the demon is destroyed, it reincarnates as a giant rubber monster, which Jenna and I refer to as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Godzilla".

Worst Special Effect
Houston, Orochi Is Go for Re-entry!
Orochi re-enters earth's atmosphere, and you can pretty blatantly see the puppet's shadow on the color photo of the earth.

Stupidest-Looking Monster
Squid Guy!
Squid Guy is almost as stupid looking as Lava Guy from the Worst Picture clip. That's not too surprising, since it's the same freakin' monster with some tentacles glued to the bottom!

Best One-Liner
Insult to Injury
The hero finds his mother's body lying on the beach. He picks her up to carry her to help. But it turns out to be the evil advisor, who shapeshifts back into his true form and stabs the hero! It could be worse, though. As the hero lies dying, the evil advisor says, "At least you got to see your mother before you died." Yeah, thanks.

"WHAT?!"
Blind Spot? More Like Blind Hemisphere.
Good thing for the bad guy that 1,000 men were able to sneak up within inches of the heroine!

Acting Appropriately Stupid
Don't Go in the Cave!
Yamato (our hero) as a kid is warned not to go into the spooky old cave. Cut to: night time, Yamato running into the cave. There's a stone face cut into a wall, with something glowing inside the mouth. Yamato reaches into the mouth, touches the object (it resembles a green chili pepper), screams, and vanishes. That's one spicy chili pepper.

Worst Picture
Fight against Magma Critter
This is a great clip. There's goofy magic powers (the female cleric who got snuck up on), unexplained eye-laser lycanthropy (Yamato ... kind of), and what could easily be an SLM (a big magma monster that transmutes its hand into weapons like a sword, or a longbow and arrows [longbow? that's not a hand weapon]). After the fight, we've got some inane prophecy and a really bad special effect with the moonlight (Sailor Moon, Golden Shower).
