The Brotherhood III: Young Demons  (2002)
Nomination Year: 2008
SYNOPSIS: At a nameless Canadian high school, a clandestine LARP called "The Game" takes place every Friday night. But this Friday's game will be special. This Friday there's an alignment of the planets. And also, the GM's brother has given him an authentic Egyptian spell book which he (the brother) personally looted from an archaeological dig.

Stir in a low-rent Judge Reinhold look-alike, add a pinch of low-budget beating heart noise (which is incredibly overused), sift through an amusing melange of Canadian accents, and you have this glacially-paced piece of ... cinema.

It's a Set-Up!
In the foreground, our two soon-to-be-magically-enslaved shmucks are arguing, and discussing the wisdom of splitting up (they eventually do). In the background (clearly visible if our shmucks had anything remotely resembling peripheral vision) the Big Bad Guy stands, watching them dither.

Director Claim to Fame
David DeCoteau Also credited as Julian Breen, Ellen Cabot, Richard Chasen, Dave DeCoteau, Eric Mancini, David McCabe, Jack Reed, Victoria Sloan, Martin Tate, Joseph Tennent, and Mary Crawford -- so far. I'd try to disguise my name, too, if I had nearly 200 directors' credits, all crap. Following the pattern of most of his messterpieces, his next made-for-TV flop should be called The Wrong Director
