Prisoners of the Lost Universe (1983)
[+]
(Foreign Titles)
Nomination Year: 2007
SYNOPSIS: The actual title is Prisoners of the Lost Universe, although the package I got it in says "Prisoner" instead. Anyhow, if you recognize many of the cast members, it's probably because they're almost all from Hawk the Slayer, except it's our own Richard "Apollo"/Iron Thunder Hatch in place of John Terry, and John Saxon in place of Jack Palance.
Dr. Hartman is a scientist who builds a machine that opens a hole into another dimension of swords and sorcery. He, a woman reporter named Carrie, and a guy named Dan (Richard Hatch, a handyman-slash-kendo expert) fall through. Carrie and Dan have to get Hartman away from Kleel (John Saxon), a tyrannical warlord who is using Hartman's scientific know-how to dominate the land. Things are complicated by the fact that Hartman is helping Kleel willingly! Dan gathers some unlikely allies along the way: a thieving dwarf, a giant, and an elf (excuse me--"green guy with spear gun"). With their help, Dan liberates Carrie, finds Hartman, topples Kleel, and returns home with the girl.
