SYNOPSIS:  There is a division in the town of Noyo. There are those who are in favor of the large cannery (CANCO) coming to town, and those who are against. Those in favor feel that it will bring jobs to the town. Those opposed fear that it will fish out the area. Our hero Jim Hill (Doug McClure) is in favor of the cannery, but he isn't violently in favor like Hank Slattery (Vic Morrow), who has put the beat down on Johnny Eagle (Anthony Pena), prime opponent of the cannery. Oh, and mangled bodies are turning up here and there, victims of some mysterious maritime menace.

As it happens, the nasty fish critters are a direct result of CANCO's planned move to Noyo, and now their lair must be found, and they must be stopped ... especially with the big salmon festival coming up.

"Let's Up The Rating To 'R'"

He's Got a Woody
We see the outside of a tent. We hear a woman's voice. She and a guy are clearly about to get it on, but ... there's something a little odd about their dialogue. When we see what's going on inside the tent, all is explained. It's the girl, and the guy, and the guy's ventriloquist dummy. The girl strips as the guy makes goofy jokes with the dummy ("You don't have to worry about splinters. I sanded."). Thankfully, monsters attack and kill the couple before the scene turns into Let My Puppets Come II.

"Alas, Poor Yorick"

A Signal Everyone Will See
There was a big fish caught in the net, but the winch motor gave out. So the Captain had the little kid (his son) refuel the winch motor. But the fish started pulling hard on the net, and the Captain was worried about the mast, so he had the kid come back to help him. In the process, the kid knocked over the gas can. The fish (man) eventually pulls the mast down onto the kid, and the kid falls in the water. The first mate runs into the cabin, calls a mayday on the radio, loads up a flare gun, runs back outside, slips in the spilled gas, and fires the flare right into the gas can. Which causes the boat to explode. Alas.

Stupidest-Looking Monster

It's a Fish. It's a Man. It's...This.
The fish critters look like an update of the Creature from the Black Lagoon with an extra helping of slimy on the side.

Worst Science

"Coelacanth" Is Pronounced "SEAL-a-canth," You Know
Dr Drake starts off her presentation with a filmstrip on "DNA 5," a growth agent for frogs. Then she goes into how they were attempting to mimic the same action in salmon, but a storm broke apart one of their tanks and spewed genetically-modified salmon into the river. From there, we go into speculation that coelacanths have been eating the GM salmon and mutating into the fish critters, which then mate with humans to stabilize their bloodline. I might have bought it if she hadn't butchered the pronunciation of "coelacanth."
